The Packaging:

The packaging is traditional of watches within this price point which is very nice because it keeps the cost down overall. Most of us just end up storing the watch packaging in the closet, so why add cost with fancy packaging? The packaging is nicely put together though with a simple white cardboard outer box and a high polished wooden inner box that is printed with the Morpheus name and logo on the inside lid. The watch itself is attached to a soft pillow and the packaging includes two cards, one with info on the watch and the other is the owner James Cowan personal card.

The Case:

The case is made of 316L hardened stainless steel with a combination of brushed and high polished parts, the sides of the case, lugs are brushed while the dial window and caseback are high polished. What I really like about the case is its dedication to the theme of the wacth itself, every little detail is well thought out and planned to making this a very themed driven timepiece. The lugs are attached to the case with a rivet just as handles on a frying pan are attached. On the crown side, the crown guard resembled a stock pot handle also attached with the same rivet style. The crown is a screw down style which are my preference over the traditional push/pull style crowns. The outer crown is plastic and is designed to resemble a stove knob, which is so clever. I grew up in the kitchen with my grandmother teaching me how to cook from a very young age, so I was drawn in by the aesthetics of this clever watch. The caseback is a display back with sapphire crystal so you can view the movement of the watch. The non crown side of the case features the word ‘CULINARY’ I really like how well done this engraving is done. It adds so much to this case in terms of uniqueness and just an overall cool feature.

The Dial:

The first thing I noticed about the dial is the open heart at the 7 marker, it just drew my eyes right into it and what it is unique about it is that is resembles an oven burner. There are a lot of design elements that are devoted to the theme of this watch but the cool thing is that I don’t get that gimicky feel when looking at this watch, they are designed so cleverly that you don’t feel like you are wearing a frying pan, so even if your not a cooking fan you can still pull of wearing this watch and if you are a fan of cooking you’ll love all the subtle details. The dial features the morpheus name and logo under the 12 position and under the 3 position is the name of the watch Master Chef. The dial only features the numbers 12 and 3, there’s alot going on this dial so I like how they kept it simple with just the addition of 2 numbers. The numbers themselves are high polished applied markers. At the other hour spots are matching high polished rectangle markers. The chapter ring contains the numbers 05-60. The dial features some nice texturing as well which rumbles the texturing on a non stick high end cookware. The lollipop style hands are very nicely done with a green tinted cream and high polished metal. The dial is beautifully executed in terms of design aesthetic. The combination of the matte black and high polished gives this watch a classy dress watch appearence.

The Movement:

The movement is a Miyota 82SO 21 jeweled automatic open heart. It’s a very reliable and tough movement and a great alternative to the ETA auto movements. Keeps great time with a +/- 10 seconds per day from my wearing experience and time with this watch.

The Strap:

The strap is a racing style strap which features some holes which are perfect for those hot kitchen cooking moments allowing some breathability. The strap is made from lesther and is signed with the Morpheus name and logo. The buckle is unsigned and stainless steel and functions as it should. The strap is very comfortable to wear.

Overall Impressions and Conclusion:

the Master Chef is a well executed watch in terms of design aesthetics. This is the perfect wacth for any chef of person who enjoys cooking but it can also be worn by those who don’t thanks to its subtle detail design. There are only two areas I will be nit picky about, mother first the crown is hard to grip and operate due to the crown guard doesn’t allow enough finger room. The other complaint is that the crystal has a good amount of glare when in certain lighting, a coating of AR would solve this problem easily.

Its a very nice offering from Morpheus that would be that perfect gift for that Chef in your life or if your a chef yourself. An affordable watch that’s well executed with s reliable automatic movement and some really cool and unique design details. A special thank you to Ron and Morpheus Watch Company for allowing me to do this review. A great pleasure to deal with you guys. A great company and great people.

  1. I’m no chef, but I love to cook. My wife got me the one with the stainless band for my birthday last month. I really like the way it looks. I wear it in the kitchen, and when I’m out and about. Very comfortable, as well. Very readable dial. My favorite part is the front and back exhibition movement.
