We interrupt your regular scheduled programming with an urgent 🚨 announcement! Hot off of the DHL truck, comes the newest addition to the @dievaswatches catalog, the Vortex 39 Ti. There’s something special about the merging of titanium with Dievas special treatment of the titanium to not only give it its matte finish but also its enhanced scratch resistance.

I can’t wait to put that to the test. It comes on a matching titanium bracelet and clasp. I put it on a custom leather strap for two reasons. One to make it easier to photograph the bracelet & caseback and to show how good the watch will also look on leather.

For those of you who don’t know Dievas here is a bit of information about them from @gnomonwatches website:

“Founded in 2006, Dievas Watch Company has built a solid reputation among collectors for robust engineering, functional design, and enduring value. Guided by a German engineering ethos, Dievas blends originality with the disciplined geometry of vintage tool watches.”

“Over the past two decades, models such as the Vortex, Time-Attack, Shadow, and Focal have earned a loyal following for their dependability and purposeful design. In 2025, Dievas revisited its core line of hybrid divers, refining the execution while retaining the mechanical integrity that defines the brand. The result is the new Vortex — a compact, re-engineered tool watch conceived for precision, resilience, and daily versatility.”

The case finish gets me every time. It looks so damn good on this grade 5 titanium case. The matte finish adds to the overall aesthetics of this watch. What’s the best part of this finish? The fact that it has the Dievas proprietary UltraWerk™ surface treatment. This treatment enhances the scratch resistance of the case and bracelet. Dievas machines and treats their watches in Germany.

The scratch resistant treatment is a transparent, but protective treatment enhances scratch and corrosion resistance. It’s great because it doesn’t affect the natural microblasted grain and enhances the overall strength of the resistance of the titanium. I am really looking forward to seeing how this case ages. Stay tuned for that!

I am typically not a fan of textured dials but this dial is different. My Ennebi Seimila Metri had a textured dial but there was a sparkle element in the textured dial that ultimately led me to getting rid of the watch. I don’t bond with polished finishes or anything that sparkles on a watch. What I like about what Dievas did is they kept everything matte, like a true tool watch should.

I wasn’t sure about how I would feel about the 3D numerals. I’m a painted numerals fan, but seeing these in person, they are awesome. I really like how they look and how they add a nice layer of depth to the dial. The numerals are extremely white and set against this black, it adds that much more to the 3D effect.

I was impressed with how fast this arrived from @gnomonwatches . It’s another great example of how case size is so irrelevant. I honestly can’t believe there are still individuals who won’t try a watch because of stringent self appointed rules.

The hands are proportioned perfectly to the dial, something that Dievas has always successfully demonstrated the ability to match the hands size to the dial circumference. Dievas also nailed the lume on this Vortex. I love how they used different colors of lume throughout this watch. It’s unique and creative, a different approach to adding depth to a dial in the darkness.

The bracelet received the same scratch resistant treatment that the case did. The full UltraWerk™ titanium braceletIt adds a cohesive feel to case and bracelet that you would expect but doesn’t always happen. The clasp features a push button micro-adjustment so you can extend the fit on the go without any tools.

The crown at the 8H position not only adds an aesthetic element to the location but it also adds a level of extra protection against accidental impacts. Obviously the lugs are a detail that I think are on point. I wish that they were drilled with solid lug bars. I do like how deep the holes are for the spring bars. A good alternative to not having drilled lugs.

This piece resonates with me on a level that I can’t quite put my finger on the why, but it does. Could it be the grade 5 titanium case or the matte black dial? I am not sure but all that I know is that I am fascinated with this watch. There is something extremely special about Dievas. I appreciate the German engineering. It’s what makes me gravitate towards fortified engineered instruments. Dievas has a quiet confidence.

They are not striving to be the most well known, in your face brand, like how some microbrands are with their “try to hard” mantra. Dievas releases their watches in small but meaningful batches. Each one is made with precision and quality that you would expect from German watchmaking.

This watch wears with a nonexistent quality. It’s a watch that you can forget about while wearing it until you need it. The best part, it’s a watch that you don’t have to worry about while putting it through its paces. There’s nothing better than when I put this watch on and I don’t have to give it a second thought whether if I am changing the oil in my jeep, or climbing the side of a cliff with jagged rocks or at the skatepark with my kids. I know that Dievas made a watch that can handle every environment and every weather condition. This is enhanced because of their Ultrawerk™ Titanium.

The legibility was given the same amount of thought and planning as the case itself. This is apparent through the 3D applied numerals, the perfectly proportioned hands and of course the lume. In my opinion, this is the most well rounded watch that Dievas has released. It will appease both the average watch enthusiast and those Dievas diehards like myself. I respect what Dievas has managed to do with this watch because they retain their German fortified engineered instrument DNA but managed to offer something different in terms of aesthetics. This isn’t an easy feat! I commend Dievas on this achievement.

The @dievaswatches Vortex is going to keep me protected from that bastard Monday! This may not look entirely like the Dievas watches that I am used to but it is packed full of it’s amazing DNA which is tough German engineering. This watch would make an excellent wingman for the SeL XOS. I am thoroughly enjoying this watch through and through. It’s the exact type of watch that I would pick to take on any of my outdoor adventures.

Yes, the aesthetics of this watch is something that I am drawn to, but it’s the quality & German engineering that makes me reach for this one. My collection is becoming a very small, tight knit crew of commandos that are capable of handling anything that I throw at it.

It’s keeping excellent time and that’s thanks to the Swiss SW200-1 automatic movement. That’s a movement that has become one of my favorite automatic movements. It’s a workhorse, it’s reliable and it’s capable of handling abuse! It’s a great choice for this watch. It’s keeping time perfectly at 8 seconds gained per day.

The clasp has acquired some light surface marks. Not scratches. The Ultrawerk™ Titanium is holding up well. Normally when my watches hit rocks or when I set them on various rough surfaces out in nature, they acquire scratches. This clasp and bracelet is showing faint hairline marks. I’ll try to capture them on my next outing with this watch.

I am very impressed by this watch. I have yet to experience a Dievas that has disappointed me. This is my 5th Dievas too, so I have some experience with the brand. I’d love to find either a MK1 Maya or MK2. Definitely on my want to add list, even though I am downsizing.

The @dievaswatches Vortex 39 with its refinement and its compact case, but most importantly without compromising the quality and German engineering that I know Dievas for. This watch is a good reminder that case size is irrelevant and that quality & engineering is the focus. What I appreciate about Dievas watches is they make capable watches that are infused with German engineering and quality but keep them affordable.

There’s no doubt in my mind that when I reach for a Dievas watch, it’s going to be able to handle whatever I throw at it throughout the day. The extra “insurance” is with their Ultrawerk treatment on the grade 5 Ti that gives the case and the bracelet more protection against scratches. I personally don’t care about getting my watches beat up but I know that other people do care. I am going to try to capture the finish on this watch macro style. Tune in next week!
