Here we have Boldr Tuesday and we are looking at the earthy Boldr Venture Sierra! “The Wayfarer Sierra pays tribute to the heritage of 24-hour sub-dial watches, once essential for explorers, miners, and adventurers navigating environments where daylight was scarce.” I love the autumn tones of this watch. The colors of this watch were inspired by autumn’s beautiful colors, the orange, red, and green, all remind me of my hikes in nature. Boldr makes the quintessential affordable beater. This watch comes in at under $350 which is a steal in my opinion because of the specs and the quality. I mean come on, at this price point and the date wheel matches the dial color. Even the fuck knobs at Rolex aren’t doing that!

The Venture Wayfarer Sierra is a compact watch built for adventures, built for abuse but also built for comfort. The 38mm titanium case is definitely compact and the 44mm lug to lug measurement keeps it extremely compact on the wrist. It’s that type of watch that you want to wear when you want to forget about the fact that you are wearing a watch until you need it. The included brown nato strap keeps this watch hugging the wrist. Boldr’s commitment to uniformity of details is quite apparent on the strap because the hardware is also titanium like the case itself.

I appreciate Boldr’s Venture cases. Boldr’s line of Venture watches are what I refer to as quintessential beaters. Boldr designed the Venture models to be affordable watches that can take a lot of abuse and keeps coming back for more! I like that the lugs are drilled on the Venture. It would be awesome to see Boldr add screw bars too. Hopefully one day we will see this on the Venture watches.

The matte finish on the case is exactly the type of finish that makes the most sense for a watch geared for adventure sustained abuse. Watches that are marketed for this purpose should never be polished! That rule number 7 in chapter 2 of the book of Stephen, verse 2. Boldr’s commitment to delivering a watch built for abuse is also carried through to the caseback! I appreciate a solid caseback on my watches that are geared for beating on. From a design perspective, it makes more sense to have a solid caseback vs an exhibition caseback

Boldr Tuesday with a Venture! The Venture Wayfarer Sierra to be exact. Just because this watch is under $350 doesn’t mean it isn’t capable of handling some abuse. Infact, this Boldr watch was made to be a reliable companion for outdoor adventures. I love the earthy tones on this dial, the reds, the orange and the brown/tan….all work together in nature’s harmonious beauty. It’s just not all about beauty either, there’s quite a bit of functional toolness to this dial as well. The custom hands that are treated with Japan Superlume that allows for nighttime or dark environment visibility. The 24h subdial comes in quite handy, especially at work when I rely on military time.

The hands are the perfect length, the ideal length, aka my preferred length. There’s nothing worse on a dial than hands that aren’t proportional to the dial. That’s a dealbreaker for me. Thankfully @boldrsupplyco never disappoints when it comes to their dials and proportions. The numerals are also a good size that offer that ease of quick glance orientation. I like how Boldr only eliminated two of the hour markers on this dial, the 3H was sacrificed for the date window and the 9H was sacrificed for the 24hr sub dial. All other companies who do date windows should take a lesson from Boldr here. This is how you do a date window when the design team insists on including one of a dial.

All of the earth tones work together in the same way that nature works together, a seamless and harmonious beauty. The texture of the dial adds to the overall beautiful vibe. It adds to the nice depth of this dial. The text on this dial is kept to a minimum thus keeping the dial itself from becoming a cluttered mess. Don’t get me wrong, I love a busy dial, but not a messy dial.

The Venture Wayfarer Sierra goes so well with nature because of its earth tones of reds, earthy oranges, and muted greens. It’s a great outdoors beater. It’s one of those watches that enjoys being out there on the wrist doing whatever adventure I dish out at it. The 38mm and 44mm lug to lug ratio allows this one to wear snug to the wrist with no overhang whatsoever. The 12mm height adds to the wrist hugging aspect of the VWS. In other words, this watch isn’t going to be hitting doorframes, but if it does, it can handle it.

There are a few details on this case that adds to the profile of this watch. A profile that I really enjoy. The fixed bezel and the no crown guards are two of those said details. I like how the crystal is slightly raised above the bezel which adds to the profile view which I thoroughly enjoy.

Beating away inside the VWS is the Miyota 8217 automatic movement with hacking seconds. It’s a reliable movement. This model has been keeping around -18 seconds per day. The VWS has a power reserve of 42 hours.

I like what Boldr has been doing for the past 6 years. They have a nice catalog of watches. The majority of them are extremely well priced. In my opinion they are quite affordable. A good, reliable watch doesn’t need to break the bank and Boldr is well aware of that!

This watch is all about the consistency of details. We have explored that with the dial details, right down to the date wheel color matching the dial color. The strap is no different. The nylon strap earth tones beautifully matches the tones of this watch. The detail that I love is the custom titanium keepers on the strap brilliantly matches the titanium case! Again, this is all on a sub $350 watch. That is insane to me. There’s more consistency and commitment to details on this watch than there is on a lot of the hype brands that I have owned.

This watch is a great option for those who are looking for an affordable beater watch. There isn’t enough praise that I can sing for this little watch that could. Boldr is a great brand who puts out some reliable watches. Watches for adventure, watches for daily abuse. Reliable watches.

This watch is like a pocket knife. Something I’d grab for one of my hiking adventures. There are certain knives in my collection that I grab before a hike, that I don’t care if they get abused. That’s exactly how I view this watch. A guilt free watch. Guilt free?!? Yes, guilt free because no matter how many scratches, dents the watch gets, I won’t feel any guilt or remorse. Knowing that this watch was made for exactly that makes it easy to throw on the wrist and to be forgotten about until needed. I love that peace of mind.

What can I say about this watch that I haven’t already said before? Well, I am going to touch upon some points here about this watch as sort of a recap so to speak. The fact that this little beater comes in at under $350 and is packed with all of these details is quite impressive. We know that Boldr makes a great & affordable watch but it still surprises me to this day. I started my Boldr journey just over 6 years ago, maybe a bit longer. Their journey has been a fun one to witness. I have been a watch fanatic since I was around 5 years old.

When I think about all of the watch brands that have come and gone over those decades, it always amazes me to see the ones that make it. Obviously Boldr hasn’t been around since I have gotten into watches but they have been around for a while now in terms of a microbrand. I have seen countless microbrands fall from power. I am thankful that Boldr is still going strong!

Thanks for reading! And thanks to Boldr.
